CuraSpon® is a sterile absorbable haemostatic, type gelatine sponge.
It provides haemostasis in surgical procedures to control capillary, venous and small arterial bleeding when binding, suturing or other conventional methods of control are impractical or ineffective.
CuraSpon® is manufactured from highly purified neutral gelatin, obtained by processing pig skin.
When applied to skin, it completely turns into a liquid state in 2-5 days, and when implanted in the body, it is completely absorbed within 4 weeks. All reports related to the use of the product showed that there were no deformations of the product and there were no complaints related to contamination of the product.
Fine porosity of sponge activates the thrombocytes at the the moment blood comes in contact with the sponge matrix.
This causes the platelets to release a series of substances which promote their aggregation at the same time as their surface change character , thus enabling them to act as a catalyst for fibrin formation.
It can be applied dry or moistened with a sterile saline solution, but must be drained before use.
It is used by pressing on the place of bleeding, held for a short time until the bleeding stops.
It absorbs up to 50 times its own weight and easily sticks to the bleeding site, no allergic reactions, does not stick to instruments.
Available in sponge and powder form.
